Malaysia has imposed antidumping duties on certain imports of galvanized steel coils and sheets from China, South Korea, and Vietnam, the country’s Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) announced on Oct. 31.
The government determined that the Malaysian domestic industry has suffered “material injury” from the imports of galvanized steel coil sheets that are priced lower than their normal value, MITI said. Galvanized steel refers to flat-rolled products of iron alloy or non-alloy steel that are plated or coated with zinc using the hot-dip process.
Malaysia has imposed duties of 7.72% on China-based Shougang Jingtang United Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. and 26.80% for other Chinese exporters.
South Korean producers Hyundai Steel Co. and KG Dongbu Steel Co. Ltd. face duties of 5.61% and 13.82%, respectively.
Malaysia also imposed duties of 2.21% on POSCO and 31.47% on other South Korean producers.
Malaysia imposed a 4.76% duty on China Steel and Nippon Steel Vietnam JSC and a 9.91% duty on Vietnam-based Southern Steel Sheet Co. Ltd.
Other Vietnamese producers flagged include Tay Nam Steel Manufacturing & Trading Co. Ltd. and TVP Steel JSC, which each face a 42.58% duty. Tan Phuoc Khanh Trading and Manufacturing Coil Steel JSC received a 48.05% duty while all other Vietnamese exporters received a 57.90% duty.
The duties took effect Nov. 1 and will remain in place for five years until Oct. 31, 2030, according to MITI.
